Three new sculptures will enrich the beauty of the promenade along the seafront
Caorle (VE) – On Saturday, June 26th at 9:00 PM, “The Small Venice” will host the awards ceremony for “Scogliera Viva. Sculpting the Sea,” an international open-air sculpture competition aimed at enhancing the cliff separating the historic center from the Adriatic Sea, transforming it into a true open-air contemporary art gallery. ScoglieraViva, now in its 20th edition, is a unique open-air sculpture symposium. Established by the Municipality in 1993, it is held every two years to adorn the cliff with works of art, thus giving the city of Caorle a unique character on the Italian coast and offering tourists and visitors another reason to spend their summer holidays here.
“The new format, developed for this event in 2018,” explains Councilor for Culture Alessandra Zusso, “which later became an international art competition and promoted across all specialized channels, has increased the cultural profile of ScoglieraViva, achieving excellent results again this year. The number of entries is extremely high, and the cultural value of the proposals received is even greater: they recount life adventures and messages of hope, and demonstrate a strong sensitivity to the environment. The cultural aspect of the ScoglieraViva art competition helps elevate and enrich our open-air museum, confirming it as the most beautiful promenade in the Upper Adriatic: we invite you to visit it; you will be amazed!”
On the evening of Saturday the 26th, the winning works of the 20th edition will be presented to the public, joining the sculptures sculpted in past editions of the Award. It will be possible to meet the artists and the jury members. Actress Violante Placido will be the event’s hostess. More than 200 artists from around the world submitted their proposals, and the jury selected the winners: Cosimo Scotucci (Italy), Peter Zaytsev (Russia), and Elena Saracino (Italy), who will each receive three cash prizes of €2,000. From June 17th to 26th, the three sculptors will be hosted in Caorle for a ten-day artist residency, during which they will sculpt before the eyes of passersby and tourists, transforming the rocks of the breakwater into true works of art.
Registration is now open for the 20th edition of “ScoglieraViva. Sculpting the Sea,” the International Open-Air Sculpture Award.
The historic event returns, featuring the direct interventions of sculptors on the seafront cliffs of the city of Caorle, a historic village a few kilometers from Venice.
Caorle, March 15, 2021 – Registration is now open for the new edition of the international “ScoglieraViva. Sculpting the Sea” award. The award aims to enhance the City of Caorle and enhance the cliff that separates the historic center from the Adriatic Sea, transforming it into a true open-air contemporary art gallery.
Participation in the competition is free and open to sculptors from around the world. The theme is free; each artist can choose their own subject to enhance the cliff. Applications must be received by May 17, 2021.
The three winning artists will each receive a cash prize of €2,000 and will sculpt their project on the Euganean trachyte rocks. Each of the three winners will also receive board and lodging from June 17 to 26, 2021, for the creation of their work on site. During the international sculptors’ stay, tourists and visitors will be able to follow every stage of the creation of their artworks and interact with the artists. The winning works will then be presented to the public at the “ScoglieraViva. Sculpting the Sea” event, which will be held on the evening of June 26, 2021, in the historic center of Caorle. They will enhance the beauty of the seaside promenade, joining the other rocks sculpted in past editions of the Prize.
THE JURY
The three best proposals will be selected by a jury of experts from the world of contemporary art:
Michelangelo Galliani – sculptor and teacher of Marble and Semiprecious Stone Techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino
Danilo Premoli – Architect and designer, member of the Scientific Committee of ADI Design Index 2020 and 2021 for the Compasso d’Oro 2022
Pietro Valle – architect, founder of Studio Valle Architetti Associati in Udine

With its golden sandy beaches gently sloping to the sea and its houses painted in the bright colors typical of Venetian tradition, Caorle is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Northern Adriatic. A city waiting to be discovered, where sea and nature blend with history, art, fishing, and tradition. The large Euganean trachyte rocks, laid to defend the town and stem the waves of the Adriatic Sea, have over time become one of the most important attractions for the city and for visitors to Caorle. The works sculpted by the artists who have participated in ScoglieraViva over the years make the pedestrian path along the seafront unique, offering a unique and enchanting “artistic walk.”
