1993 – 2016

Art Competition

since 1993

ScoglieraViva is a unique historical competition, featuring sculptors directly involved in the work on the cliffs of the historic village of Caorle, Venice.

The artworks

 Mare e vento – Arianna Gasperina – 2016
The artist proposes a portion of an angelic figure that leads the author to reflect on the love of those who are no longer with us. It is to all those who put the heart before interest that the work is dedicated.

 Memento – Gianni Bordin – 2016
In his sculpture, the author imagines a tragic news story discovered at the bottom of the sea (or perhaps in a modest country bakery) and seen with an ironic gaze, designed to exorcise fear while not distracting the passer-by.

 Bagnante – Roberto Merotto – 2016
Born in the deep sea, a mermaid rises to the surface, attracted by the swarming of human life. It is a moment: her long tail disappears to give way to two endless legs.

 Energie – Maurizio Rossetto – 2016
With this shape and these lines, that originate from a steel core, the artist creates a positive energy creeping into us and kindly driving us in the process of becoming.

Paesaggio mediterraneo – Enzo Migneco Togo – 2016
The artwork is a seascape that, with the four symbols of the sun, the sea, the palm and the boat, underlines the ancestral relationship with the landscapes in Southern Italy and those places where the artist was raised.

Parlando contro vento in un pomeriggio d’estate – Gaetano Brugnano – 2014
With his sculpture, the artist wished to create lines of force and synthetic levels, imparting to the form the movement typical of futuristic dynamics, allocating them to a timeless dimension.

 Superficie – Giulio Candussio – 2014
According to the artist’s intentions, the completed form emerges from the rock that inspired it. Immersed in the context of the marina, it lives opposite the light.

 Giardini pensili – Mirko Filipuzzi – 2014
Inspired by Mondrian, the artist, with his lines, planes, volumes, and geometries, wanted to investigate the spaces that in stone are articulated in solids and voids, in light and dark and in various backgrounds.

Madonna con bambino – Elena Ortica – 2014
The artist, who arrived in Caorle with another project, after visiting the little church of the Angel, felt almost compelled to give the rocks the form of the Madonna whose mantle protects the town from the rush of the sea.

Adagio per flauto e mare – Romano Pucci – 2014
The sculptor, also known as a famous flautist, wanted with this rock to create a link between music and the sea, so as to unveil some of their mysteries.

 Archetipo memoriale – Renata Boero – 2012
By proposing the aspects of the earth, sea and sky, the artist wanted to create a primordial form that praises the peace and harmony between the elements of nature.

 Embrione – Angelo Brugnera – 2012
With Embryo, the artist has captured the moment in which the sculpture detaches itself from the matrix and at the same time is sucked into it by an incessant change that is necessary for life.

 Tre Lune – Carla Tolomeo – 2012
With the representation of the three moons, the artist wanted to bring to life in stone the inner experience of an astonished soul in front of our sea.

 Finis Terrae – Simone Beck – 2010
From the last offshoot of land, man has always pushed towards the sea, a perpetual symbol of the unknown. In this block, the artist represents the exchange of struggle between man and sea. It is a homage to Caorle, from where, while the sculptor was creating, he imagined his own land, Istria, another ‘finis terrae’, beyond the Gulf of Trieste.

 Profondità marine – Sestilio Burattini – 2010
Countless species of living beings are victims of ecological catastrophes and man’s selfishness. From this consideration, in the work an ancient nautilus re-emerges from the darkness as a warning and testimony of what man, consciously and unconsciously, causes to nature.

 Barca – MAŠA PAUNOVIĆ – 2010
The artist used a boat as the starting point for his artistic idea. The boat is a symbol of the journey, mobility, and the search for truth.
The journey is always unpredictable and through the shape of his sculpture and the various textures, the artist tries to represent the intimacy of each of us towards the directions our lives can take.

Volo di gabbiani verso l’infinito – Piero Ronzat 2010
The artist ponders the why of things, the succession of negative events before the universal, chaotic catastrophe. Ronzat’s sculpture is a positive warning for the preservation of the historical and rural environment of Caorle, crossed by the flight of seagulls towards infinity. It is an interpretation with a strong environmental impact.

Bons Baiers de Caorle – Isa Bourland -2008
In this work, the stone suggests a female form (almost a symbol of the artist’s work), where its organic essence is nourished by the proximity of the sea and its femininity by the warmth of the sun.

 Nell’immensità – Silvano Cattai – 2008
In sculpture, the confrontation between form and non-form is perceived, until the different is transformed into a media reality with reversed poles and life bursts from the earth into infinity.

Nascita di una madre – Oriana Impei – 2008
The sculpture is a shell designed for water as a symbol of life. Inside, a sculpted cushion fills with air and vital energy and invites passers-by to sit and meditate. Here the ‘shell’ waits for the waves to cover it, as if to repossess the primordial form they generated.

Androgino – Bruno Lucchi – 2008
The figure evoked by the sculpture has a broad forehead, an enigmatic gaze with sunken eye sockets and soul-like hair. This figure, subtending arcane presences, projects itself as a guardian of time, bearing witness to the present.

Bitta per il faro – Genti Tavanxhiu – 2008
The lighthouse has always been a testimony to seafarers, but here it becomes alive and therefore in need of shelter. Hence the creation of a mooring, a bollard for the lighthouse, in a kind of thanksgiving for its existence.

 Bisonte – Sergio Capellini -2006
With this work, the artist wanted to take us back to the majesty of nature, evoked by the scents of bivouacs, images of burning fires and the lives of migrant peoples.

Geometrie sul mare – Ferruccio Gard -2006
The sculpture, inspired by paintings from his geometric period, presents some movements, contrasts and undulations obtained in the rock with skilful texturing. Between stepped polishings and bush-hammering, the sculpture recalls the waves and ripples of the sea, marked by geometric rhythm.

 Eclisse – Alba Gonzales -2006
Here the artist recalls the art of the Etruscans mediated by her love of classical literature and the sensitivity of a woman of our time. The sun and the moon, lovers since time immemorial, chase each other across the sky until they meet, and they discreetly eclipse the light.

 Mappa – Cesare Serafino – 2006
The artist’s work is a story of memories, where signs are transformed into symbols, breaking down the barriers between the figurative and the abstract, between matter and spirit, between sacred art and the sacred conception of art.

Goccia nel mare – Marko Zelenko -2006
The young Slovenian artist wanted to create an optical representation of the stormy sea with the movement of the waves and the reflection of the sun on the water.

 Costellazione – Donato Bianco – 2004
As a link between the sea, the land and the celestial sphere, this work, composed of circular shapes, gives rise to an open ellipse containing nine points of the constellation Pisces. At the top a spiral symbolizes the perennial water cycle.

 Gorgone – Girolamo Ciulla – 2004
In this work, the author evokes the mythological figures of the Gorgons, monstrous looking, with snakes for hair who turned anyone who looks directly into their eyes to stone. But, in the author’s interpretation, the petrification of the gaze is not matched by the end.

 Il respiro – Metod Frlic – 2004
In the soft crumpling of the stone, the artist wanted to create a kind of skin for the stone itself, thus evoking an organic event for a stone that wants to live.

 Volo Ancestrale – Massimina Pesce – 2004
The sculpture represents the flight of a fossil in the act of returning to new light: a metaphor for the upward aspiration of spirituality and transcendence.

 Muro – Andrea Vizzini – 2004
In this work, the artist has created a linear cut that corresponds to a kind of ancient moulding on the flat gable. In his vision, the wall-rock can also be understood as a temple.

 Famiglia – Tapiwa Chapo – 2003
Combining the ancestral art of his homeland (Zimbabwe) with Western taste, the artist has managed to draw from the rock a solid family where love develops in a succession of intertwined and yet continuous signs.

 Amanti – Raffaella Robustelli – 2003
The artist has chosen the largest rock to give that perception of serenity to his two prone figures (lovers) lapped by the waves of the sea: some waves that form far away and unknown break on the shoreline.

 Memoria – Elena Sevi – 2003
In this stone, the artist has unearthed fossils, as if they had been enclosed by the unequal passage of time, giving us the memory of fragments of a distant everyday life.

 Adriano Visintin – 2003
The artist draws the space into a harmonious form, in a simple but intense movement, reducing mass, increasing the play of light and gradually releasing the various descriptive planes until it becomes a pure acronym.

Le porte della percezione – Luigi Voltolina – 2003
Thinking about concepts such as time and the human being, the artist has created a bas-relief of an exhausting race in his rock, a metaphor for man’s journey, obliged to make the difficult attempt to pass through the gates of perception in order to find himself.

 Donna Seduta – Silvie Berry – 2002
Well-known in France for the plasticity of her sculptural interventions, the artist wanted to create a ‘seated woman’, where the voluptuousness of the form, almost cast from rock, represents the loving embrace of all mankind since the beginning of time.

La Caorlina – Sergio dalla Mora – 2002
The artist wanted to pay homage to the city of Caorle by giving it one of its symbols, ‘the caorlina’. A rediscovered caorlina, almost an archaeological find, imaginative, where the exact shapes are transfigured by the artist’s mastery.

 Luciano Gabrielli – 2002
The artist has thought of a ‘living’ subject, momentarily slumbering in a pose to be respected. And who more than a child can be embraced by the love of the cliff, by which it seems to be held. And the sculpture, punctilious, exact, almost maniacal is now part of a whole to which it will be bound in the course of time.

 Villibossi – 2002
By creating a synthesis between humanity and technique and giving a positive meaning to our insecurities, the artist has created a ‘bi-lite’, which almost confronts and divides, but which is held in an embrace, symbolizing the reality we all experience.

 Linguaggio tecnico – Zdravko Milic – 2001
The artist develops an investigation aimed at recovering archaic societies, transferring them into a sort of morse language of lines and dots, reminiscent of a computer screen. Technical Language’ is the title of this work divided into two parts, almost as if one were a repetition of the other.

 Radici – Milena Taneva Taneva – 2001
In a play of positives-negatives, of shadows and light, the artist has given life to the material by creating a soft body – ‘Radici’ (Roots) – caught in a languid awakening, exuding a femininity indifferent to the gaze, because she herself is lost in the wonder of the infinite. And this illusion is given shape by the perfection of the lines and the strength of the signs, never casual.

Stele celeste – Domenico Di Filippo – 2001
In his monolith, entitled ‘Celestial Stele’, the artist has fused the ancestral, the magical and the archaic with the oldest tradition of human thought and art. In fact, the subject matter is reminiscent of archaeological finds from civilizations that have not yet been deciphered.

Il fiore di Caorle – Gualtiero Mocenni – 2001
The sculpture almost seems to come naturally out of the rock that enclosed it. And even this apparent ease is characterised by a complexity of elements, combining form and light, geometry, and poetry in a direct relationship.

 Pensiero – Marie Ange Desparis – 2001
Always interested in man, his feelings and passions, the artist seeks what lies beyond. In her figure, entitled ‘Pensiero’ (Thought), lost in the timelessness of nature, she wanted to convey the fascination of the Medusa, herself petrified by beauty.

 Acqua – Giorgio Celiberti – 2000
 Metempsicosi – Pablo Atchugarry – 2000

Viaggio della pietra – Francesco Cadeddu – 1995
 Remizia – Remo Belletti – 1995

Animali marini – Longo Sergio – 1994
This work of figurative art presents a motif with a strictly marine character, featuring an almost loving union between two completely different species of marine animals.

Omaggio dalla Sardegna – Giuseppe Solinas – 1994
The Sardinian artist wanted to send his own message of life through the symbols of the Nuragic civilization (civilization of pre-Roman Sardinia). The bronze circles hanging from the corks represent from left to right: bread, the sun, stars, flowers, water, the moon, sex.

Natura che scompare – Miguel Miranda – 1994
Many themes are proposed by this work: pollution, extinction, the degradation of nature caused by man and depicted by the net. The dolphin, symbol of an intelligent, strong and graceful nature, struggles with all his might and manages to tear the net away. But the net is not completely broken and the danger of being overwhelmed remains, as does the danger of man destroying the entire environment.

 Estinzione – Marcellino Salvetta – 1994
With this rock, the author wanted to raise his cry of alarm to the world about the extinction of the weakest species. These animals, in order to ensure the continuity of their species, mate, even though they are aware of the risk their offspring will have to bear. The sculptor wanted to give a sign of how much strength the animal and therefore also man can still give in order not to disappear, in order to survive.

 Umanità- Franco Maschio – 1994
The idea came from the sculptor’s desire to witness the feeling of solidarity between men. A sentiment that is all too often betrayed today, but still true and alive in seafarers. In other words, starting from this environmental specificity, the artist sought to capture in the gesture of help and rescue of an adult towards a child at sea, the image of giving life for life’s sake. The concept of the castaway at sea would like to extend to the universality of men shipwrecked in life, too alone, too lost, often indifferent to their own lives and those of others.

Pegaso di mare – Ghiggini Alessia – 1994
The artist’s intention was to design and sculpt a work of a subject inherent in the dreamlike osmosis of animal and human, thus attempting to escape the fantasy of reality. In the end, however, the latter imposes itself, and transforms them into almost disturbing figures that nonetheless reveal in their themes the possibility of becoming a negative metamorphosis.

 Ritratto – Martin Fröhlich – 1994
The author, a German national, wanted to give a memory of his childhood. He frequented the beach of Caorle with his family, and in his eyes remained the portrait of a fisherman he met on his return from fishing when, like all tourists, he too went with his father and mother to the marina to see the fishermen unloading the fish from the boats.

 Schizzo – Mara Moschini – 1994
The artist wanted to carve into the stone some shapes that present aspects of observation dictated by the taste for aesthetic research, shapes that compare and contrast with the imaginative reality that is present in today’s way of living and thinking.

Acquario fossile- Giuseppe Deganello – 1994
This sculpture should be read starting with the upper part of the boulder and the surrounding boulders. The undulating marks represent the continuity of the sea, which was in prehistoric times the first seat of life and which the fossil (ammonite) represents. The eyes of the fish are spheres that change colour as time goes by, desired by the artist because they represent the most living part of the sculpture.

 Speranza Jugoslavia – Bossio Leonardo – 1994
The author wanted to be part of the drama that still affects the territories of the former Yugoslavia. This stone edge worked entirely by hand represents an arrow shot precisely in the direction of this country to bring a message of hope to this people.

 Maternità – Francesco Fantin – 1994
The work represents the birth of any form of life. The symbol of the earth worked into the boulder with a smooth, circular shape brings forth fluid matter, the symbol of life, which once detached from its mother gives birth to a new form of life.

 Origine – Giuseppe Deganello – 1994
This sculpture represents the birth and evolution of life. At the top of the work we see the first life form represented by the trilobite. Lowering our gaze we see the next life form represented by the ammonite to move on to the skeletons expressed by sculpting the fish to arrive at the end with the representation of a human face and close the evolutionary cycle precisely with the appearance of man.

La forza di esistere – Giuseppe solinas – 1994
The work represents the will, meant as something innate, something immortal, which strengthens itself by renewing itself, without breaking the connection with its roots, to exist and to resist. It also represents the ordeal and struggle of a people that no colonial domination has succeeded in subjecting to slavery, who continue to exist by looking critically at the world around them, without ever denying their cultural identity.

 Hatanor – Rino Giannini – 1994
In the alchemical furnace, imagination merges with the will to transform. The change resulting from the cosmic phases of sun and moon, of heat and cold, of man and woman; interpreted by the calligraphy of the sculptor’s hand, dictated by the tools, the stone itself the object of transformation; from a defenseless boulder to a form marked by volumes inspired by cultural heritage.

La rana che salta – Senoner Flavio – 1994
The frog, an amphibious animal that lives between land and water, adapting itself to the matter of its environment, swims in the water while in the land it jumps, it does not walk, and the jump is understood as vitality, the animal’s joyfulness, of us, towards life. The frog is the artist who has adapted to the matter he has worked on.

Passaggio di un fantasma – Tiozzo Antonella – 1994
The work represents the imaginary path of a ghost that arrives from the sea and enters and leaves the stone boulder, leaving traces like the sculptors who work, shape, create the work and then disappear, leaving a trace, just like the passage of the ghost.

Nascita della Forma – Taraboi Gino – 1993
This abstract work represents the desire “to get out”. Here, the sculptor depicts the birth of a form by placing the gene at the centre of the stone, on the re-entering side. It symbolizes the beginning of life, coming out of its immobility and trying to give itself a form that, for the moment, is still undefined.

Sole che illumina la pietra – Fantini Francesco – 1993
The energy of the sun brightens the cliff and heat it. The shape of a sun is carved from another type of stone that is lighter and more alive because it is the centre of life.

Galoppando sulla scogliera – Carraro Giancarlo – 1993
In this merely descriptive work, a horse originates from the stone, in fact its legs are not well defined, and then it comes back to the rock since its mane and the upper part of its head merge with the stone.

 L’attesa – Manente Lidio – 1993
Out of competition

 La Francesina – Longo Sergio – 1993
Out of competition

 Il Bacio – Pacco Sergio – 1993
Inspired by the sea, by the location. A romantic meeting between two people who kiss and love each other on the seashore.

Il saggio contro il male – Zoggia Angelo – 1993
The strength of a wiseman that, with his outstretched hand, stops the tentacles of the evil force, represented by the tree and its branchin

Ascolto di un passaggio – Sossella Gabriele – 1993
The sculptor has chosen to work on this boulder because he was amazed by the many facets, shapes and colours, and that’s why he wanted to create an artwork that did not require a large sculpting intervention. The central part, i.e. the band, represents the wavy movement which is typical of water and sound, and in this movement something, or someone, is passing by, represented by the fish on the left, which wants to attract the attention, and the ear trying to comprehend what it is to hear a movement.

La terra e il mare – Miranda Miguel – 1993
In this work, the message that the author wanted to convey revolves around the concept of strength. Strength is expressed at the top of the stone with the crests of the sea breaking on the rock, but also in the center of the boulder with the half-bust of a man resisting with his own strength.

 Melodia a Caorle – Fortuna Armando – 1993
The musicality of the environment. With such word the author wanted to briefly explain his work. The undulations represent a melody, a series of musical compositions that tend to open light-heartedly. The upper part is dedicated to the musicality of water such as the sound and the curves of the viola; in the middle part and in the right corner there is the melody and the instrument that produces it, the piano, and then in the lower part to the left, a trumpet and a trombone are depicted in two ledges.

 Capitani Coraggiosi – Soppelsa Silvano – 1993
This naif tells a tale, and in order to tell it, the sculptor has used two stones. The story is about a sailing ship, portrayed by the figurehead on the left and upper part of the rock, which sets sail from Caorle amidst the festivity of the people, on the upper right where the festivity is represented by the sun- However, the ship has to fight against pirates emerging from the horizon of the sea – as it can be seen on the lower part of the rock – who want to steal the treasure, portrayed by a pearl carved on the second rock, while the captain with his arm stretched out between the two rocks tries to grab it.

 Sirena a Caorle – Sanna Antonio – 1993
Who is the inhabitant of the rocks par excellence? Mermaids. This is why the author has chosen to give the Caorle reef its inhabitant, in order to make it alive and not just a pile of dead and motionless stones.

 Reperto- Stocco Vinicio – 1993
A carved find is represented in this work. In order to bring it to light, the artist had to dig into the rock: this Roman head with helmet and spears represents man’s search for the past, and for his own origins.

 Animale Fantastico – Salvetta Marcellino – 1993
The author wished to play with the size, formation and composition of the boulder. The artist did not want to represent a particular animal, but a ‘fantastic’ beast from the prehistoric era.

Tragedia– De Marchi Luciano – 1993
The author wanted to strike the visitor in a violent manner. In fact, although abstract, the face expressiveness is very harsh, with distraught eyes and the mouth screaming the despair of the tragedy of a mother living through the death of her son in the tragic Yugoslav conflict.

 L’attesa del pescatore – Marenco Pierino – 1993
The artist brought his work to life by working on two stone bodies. Again a tribute to the people of Caorle, but not to those who experience the work firsthand, but to the wife, depicted in the stone on the left, who waits for her fisherman husband – depicted in the stone on the right – to return with his boat.

 Amore e Sofferenza – Grillo Salvatore – 1993
In this boulder of difficult workmanship due to a series of particular veins, an easy message is captured: the coexistence of love and pain. Love represented by the union of the two seagulls embracing each other with their wings and the suffering of those who look at them perhaps envious of their love. The seagulls freed in the centre of the space and, the suffering condemned below.

 Pescatore a Caorle – Ongaretto Luciano -1993
This work pays tribute to an ancient and yet still actual profession like that of the fisherman in Caorle. It depicts a fisherman who, after collecting his nets, heads home in his boat; the disproportionality of the figure of the man is a symbol of his importance towards the nature that surrounds him.

Voglia di libertà – Maschio Franco – 1993
The message conveyed by the work is rather clear and unambiguous. People chant with their hands to the sky in an exaltation of freedom and life. There is an explicit reference to the current situation of struggle of the peoples of the former Yugoslavia.

 Profughi – Leitner Heidi – 1993
Here the artist has experimented stone processing for the first time therefore she did not want ‘to rage’ on it more than necessary. This work depicts the weeping of a refugee (head in the upper and right part) embraced by a friend (central part of the stone) with a third person looking on indifferently at the scene (head in the lower and central part).

Testimone del tempo – Walpoth Bruno – 1993
In this abstract artwork, the author wished to emphasise the tension of the stone by developing upwards the three striations that are present on the lower part of the boulder.

 Crescere insieme – Trocker Erich – 1993
This abstract work wants to express the growth of three undefined forms that manage to develop despite being divided by nature, represented by the stone that divides them.

 Prometeo – Greco Ettore – 1993
As the title suggests, this sculpture refers to the history of Prometheus. After stealing the fire from the gods, he was tied to a rock by Jupiter. Here too, the sculptor wanted to transport the strength of the rock into the mythical character without changing much of the rock’s original appearance.

 Natura – Cristina Cicero -1993
The work places the image of a seashell at its centre. It is a representation of marine nature in honour of the place where it was carved, a tribute all the more remarkable in that it is carved from a boulder that had much of its current appearance.

 Conchiglia – Rifesser Armin – 1993
The work depicts a seabed, at the top a shell enclosing a starfish symbolizing the beauty of the sea.

 Nettuno- Longo Sergio – 1993
Out of competition.
